"Tense romantic suspense thriller"
Rachel Everly returns to her home town, Neptune's Landing to learn why her sister, Mallory, committed suicide. Rachel wonders if Kyle Scanlon is the underlying reason as the hunk has tempted every female in town from the moment he opened up his mechanic shop.
Rachel is surprised to find out that her sister left her with her pride and joy the Nine Ball family pool hall. Because she feels guilty for not being there for her sibling, Rachel plans to honor Mallory by turning the place into a thriving business.
She moves into Mallory's small apartment above the pool hall, but finds the place haunting as she constantly yells (a bit overdone) why at every hint of Mallory's presence, which is everywhere, and starts to locate clues of the source that propelled her sister to apparently kill her self. Clues to the evil that controlled Mallory until her death was her only relief from her dark side; Rachel is next if she fails to interpret what she truly inherited from her sibling.
FLASHBACK is a tense romantic suspense thriller starring two combatants falling in love while the heroine wonders if her beloved led her sister to the dark side. The war between the lead couple is fun to follow, but the key to the exciting story line remains Rachel's efforts to learn what drove her sibling to suicide. As readers ponder why also, only Kyle can keep Rachel from repeating her sister's mistakes, but she must trust him to be her champion; a difficult undertaking when you deem him unworthy of her and most likely in her estimation the cause.

‘Flashback’ is a romantic suspense thriller by Cait London, a USA Today and New York Times best-selling author. This book was published by Avon in September 2005 and is 416 pages. It takes two people through a tension-filled relationship while searching for answers to the death of a loved one.
Rachel Everly returns home to Neptune’s Landing to attend her sister Mallory’s funeral, who tragically committed suicide after a 3-year struggle with alcohol, drugs, and beatings that led to her demise. She soon encounters Kyle Scanlon, the town mechanic, whom she has always despised. Believing that he was in a relationship with Mallory, she goes on the hunt to find evidence to prove his part in her downfall. Little did she know that the more time spent with Kyle, sparks would start to fly for this sexy, yet secretive man.
She learns that Mallory left Nine Balls, her billiards business, to her. She moves into the apartment above the business against everyone’s advice. While living there, she constantly smells and hears Mallory, bringing her some comfort. This makes her even more determined to understand why her sister would take her own life.

Evidence begins to pile up against Kyle being the culprit. As Rachel pursues her investigation, she discovers secret compartments holding items that clearly paint another picture of Mallory’s life. This, in turn, points towards other possible suspects and more speculation about her sordid life.
Rachel starts asking more and more questions to get people riled up in the hopes of learning Mallory’s secrets. Gradually, the clues she uncovers points to the unimaginable. Setting herself up as bait, she pushes harder to uncover the monster that harmed her sister and, at the same time, begins to trust and love Kyle. Together, they must piece together all they know to capture the true villain so they can finally lay Mallory to rest.
This is the first Cait London book read. Although it took the first couple of chapters to really get into the story, it did eventually move forward for an enjoyable read, leading to a surprising, but excellent ending.
The author did a great job in bringing Rachel and Kyle together. Their constant word-play and sexual tension as they began falling in love proved to be exciting and fun.
Not only did the budding romance between Kyle and Rachel keep me entertained and interested, but one becomes involved in the lives of all the characters from the beginning to ending of the book. An even more amazing job was accomplished by keeping the reader caught up in the events leading to Mallory’s death.
The author’s idea of allowing Mallory to talk to Rachel helped the readers understand what some people go through when they lose a loved one. It shows that one sometimes needs resolution to move forward.

If you want a good thriller, this is the book. From the get go, Cait London leads you through the darker side of a young woman who lost her way. The characters made the book wonderful and creepy at the same time. I was so caught up in the story I couldn't put it down until I got to the end. I really can't wait for Cait's next book.

Flashback is an excellent example of romantic suspense done right. The sexual tension between Kyle and Rachel is obvious from the beginning. I quickly became involved not only in their developing romance, but also in the mystery surrounding Mallory's death. I have been fan of Cait London since her early Silhouette days. I look forward to what Ms. London has in store for the future. Flashback packs a punch!

Author Cait London has become well known for her special gift of pulling readers quickly into a story. Once you begin this suspense novel you will not even WANT to resist! My only pet peeve with this story is that Rachel yells aloud at Mallory's felt presence too often. The two main characters, Rachel and Kyle, are a pleasure to watch clash. I never knew which one would win or what would happen next. ****
